The Rise Of Bunthulhu - Scultpture

Sculpture/ Grand Canyon University/ DDN 230
I should start off by saying that I am not a sculptor. I have never sculpted anything in my life. So, needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive about a required sculpting course that is a part of my program. As the entire course moved to an end result, this will be the only post regarding this project.
Part of the project was to create a character that would later be sculpted out of clay. So, as with many other projects, students were instructed to create thumbnails of possible creatures/ characters.
Next, it was time to decided on a character and create character sketches, a model sheet and a schematic for the wire structure that would support the character.
Now it was time to start working on the frame that would support the sculpture
Next step: start adding clay. The following images are the rough clay additions to get the overall body started.
At this point, it was time to start thinking about detail work and environments. We were instructed to create small examples of these steps.
From left to right: Texture ideas show fur, scales, tentacle suckers and feathers, seastacks and boulders, crashing waves, and driftwood.
And finally, the completed project.
